Boys are backing town

Bon Jovi put you on the map

What?
Bon Jovi are jumping on the user- generated bandwagon with the Bon Jovi Loves My Town! contest. The band are asking fans to record short videos that could end up featuring in the US leg of their Lost Highway Tour. Fans are invited to upload short films to a specially created website; a panel of judges will then select portions of the footage to play alongside the Bon Jovi song ‘I Love This Town’. Winners receive a pair of tickets for their nearest show, plus signed albums for the runners-up.
Fans can submit as many videos as they like, from any town in the world, even if Bon Jovi will not perform there on this tour. “We’ve recorded the soundtrack, we want you to make it an event,” said Jon Bon Jovi in a video blog.
So what?
The live scene is booming, however the nature of a live event still falls short of a personal user experience in most cases. A number of initiatives are springing up attempting to personalise live events. Alongside meet and greet premium tickets, Hard-Fi and others have embraced live CD sales of individual concerts and Super Furry Animals recently let fans choose set lists. How far away are we from a resurfacing of Elvis Costello’s fan-spun wheel of fortune deciding on live songs?
“This is a brilliant concept and a relatively easy way for Bon Jovi to demonstrate their gratitude to their fanbase, who in turn feel that they hold a more significant space within the band ‘sphere’ than the average fan.”
