Classic FM seeks heavenly voice
What?: Classic FM and Universal Classics & Jazz are partnering on a new UK search to find a fifth member to record a track and perform with classical girl-group All Angels. Entrants can submit CDs, DVDs or upload videos of themselves performing to the Classic FM site. Five applicants will be shortlisted to perform in front of a panel of industry experts and the winner will be announced on 12th November. They will then get to perform with the group on 28th November.
So what?: What was the fastest-growing area of music sales in 2006? It wasn’t rock, indie, or hip-hop; it was classical music, according to a Nielsen Sound Scan report.
On the face of it this is just another in a long line of dull talent searches, but the difference here is the lucky winner actually gets to be a part of a platinum- selling group. It could end up being a brief 15 minutes of fame on the November performance date only though as opposed to a long-term integration into the group. However, it still seems better than some other talent campaigns currently being touted around. Plus Classic FM has the kind of following that will probably make the winner a star inher own right anyway – rather than clip her wings.
