Off-the-peg music campaigns
What?: The musical jumper is yet to unravel:
EMI is partnering up with high-street fashion retailer Next to promote new artist Ava Leigh in a series of adverts.
Country star Taylor Swift is to be the face of Jones Apparel Group’s L.e.i Back-To-School junior clothing range.
French singer/actress Vanessa Paradis replaces Kirsten Dunst as the face of Prada’s Miu Miu brand.
Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum is launching his “English parlour meets French bordello” clothing line.
Uniglo invite you to create and submit your own loops based on beats performed by their models.
Gabriella Cilmi is to promote Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana.
So what?: “After several years of healthy spending on clothing, many consumers may now view their closets as full enough,” stated credit agency Moody’s recently. The over-supplied clothing market is looking increasingly unstable amid the economic downturn. “The upturn will not occur until the middle-to-the-end of 2009,” said MHE Retail’s Chairman, Edward Whitefield. With this in mind, surely it’s time to set aside ad-hoc music endorsements and create more fulfilling music campaigns. Clothing should fit with music hand-in-glove, due to the obvious fashion and music crossover. Now, more than ever, it’s time to get this one sewn up.
“Music and fashion are both wonderful vectors for self-expression. A glimpse on Harmonix’s Rock Band at the character customisation gives a pretty good idea of how linked fashion is to music.”
