Corsa puts on its Sunday best
What?: Vauxhall Corsa is teaming up with BBC Radio 1’s Rob Da Bank for a series of intimate indoor festival events, entitled Bandstand. The events – which promise to be “quintessentially British” – take place on 3rd May in London and 10th May in Liverpool and will feature Mark Ronson, Annie Mac, Late Of The Pier and The Cuban Brothers amongst others.
Live acts and DJs will perform in a traditional bandstand setting, surrounded by park benches and traditional eccentric British fayre, as the event takes the elements of an outdoor festival inside. The C’mons (Corsa’s stuffed and stitched animated characters) will also make an appearance at the event and feature in surrounding advertising. “Bandstand, like Corsa, is all about going on a journey and discovering new and exciting adventures with your mates,” states the website.
So what?: Vauxhall Group’s Marketing Director Richard Hughes said they had opted for something more unique than a ‘straightforward sponsorship’. However, a more groundbreaking use would be to nurture the long-lost bandstand itself. Corsa, with bandstand in tow, could pitch up in various cities bringing the festival experience to your door. Take a mainstay in the Victorian era and for brass bands and give it a new spin.
“A good audience for Corsa: mature enough to accept brand involvement and likely to be looking for a practical run-around. Sadly, it feels like a bit of a badging exercise which could have been much better if Sunday Best had worked with the brand closer to the heart of its executions.”
