Can you see past the bull?

Orange Glastonbury giveaway
What?: Didn’t get Glastonbury tickets? Shame. Short of tunneling your way in your options are limited now. Orange however are giving you the chance to win some with their pin the tail on the bovine styled competition. Some unfortunate Orange employee has strapped a GPS device to a bull; your job is to guess where the bull – called Derek – is in his field. The mobile operator is giving away 20 pairs of highly sought after Glastonbury tickets – one pair a day – from 22nd May to 15th June. Simply choose a square on the field grid where you think the bull will be at 3pm each day and you will be entered into the draw for tickets.
If you’re lucky it’ll be you traipsing round a muddy field instead of Derek.
So What?: Capitalising on people’s desperation is a sad state of affairs, but also an effective way of drawing people to your product. In this example Orange finds itself piggy-backing on the heightened demand for Glastonbury tickets. Guessing the location of a GPS bull is as much of a lottery as anything else, and it does throw some frivolity into the trauma of trying to win tickets with its mock analysis from vets, farmers and animal psychologists. The site also includes the ubiquitous festival survival guide and news updates on Glastonbury itself, just to wet your appetite even more. You can also utilise webcams, RSS feeds and a Vista gadget to update you on all the bull activity.
Of course, if you’re really desperate, you could take a laptop and trawl the country searching for the field’s location.
