Sony plays with madness
What?: The new Sony HD ad, by Fallon London in conjunction with Blink, puts a Poodle through a high definition car wash.
The campaign follows on from the hugely successful Sony Bravia Balls ad, which featured thousands of multicoloured balls bouncing down a San Francisco street in slow motion to the dulcet tones of José González.
The new ad features a Poodle, half a car, bubbles, foam, balloons and the not so dulcet tones of Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden singing the late 80’s track Can I play with Madness?

So what?: Of course when we say successful for Bravia we really mean successful for José González, who racked up huge album sales off the back of this ad. Debut album ‘Veneer’ went platinum in the UK and Ireland, selling more than 700,000 worldwide. His cover version of Heartbeats – originally by Swedish duo The Knife – gaining massive exposure from the advert.
On this attempt Sony have opted for full on Scissor Sisters style kitsch, nicely juxtaposed against one of Iron Maiden’s more accessible pop tracks. Will it have the same impact on Iron Maiden record sales? Doubtful.
The Poodle looks terrified.
