Winehouse gets a liquor license to kill
What?: Bond composer David Arnold has apparently set his heart on volcanic haired songstress Amy Winehouse singing the title song for the next bond movie.
Arnold, who has scored the last four Bond films, insisted that the ‘Rehab’ star has the vocal and songwriting talent required for the job. He said: “Amy Winehouse had the best record of last year. I haven’t asked her yet, but I think she’d be good, although Bond songs can be a bit of a war zone.”
Rumours have surfaced and resurfaced, and the jury is currently still out as to whether she is to be involved or not. She may even have an acting role, although fencing like Madonna may be ruled out due to the proximity to sharp objects.
So what?: The Bond franchise is notoriously lucrative, ranking up a massive $3B in gross revenue since its inception in 1952. This figure is only eclipsed by the Star Wars franchise.
The Bond brand changed dramatically with Casino Royale, culling the majority of its endorsements and ditching its trademark image. One marketer suggested it was the branding equivalent of turning “Coke cans to blue” and like suggesting “Nike doesn’t
need the swoosh”.
Duran Duran’s “A View to a Kill” was the first and last James Bond theme song to score a number one in the US charts. However the Bond franchise still retains the potential to
launch Amy as a global artist.
Just keep her away from the vodka martinis.
