So what?: Vanessa Hudgens is one of America’s wealthiest and most aspirational teen stars thanks to the hugely-successful Disney High School Musical franchise. Here she follows in the footsteps of other Neutrogena ‘fresh faces’ such as Mandy Moore and Hayden Panettiere. Placing a free music download next to a free sample of pink grapefruit oil-free acne wash seems somewhat unglamorous on the surface. However, exfoliating a little deeper reveals that it captures a skincare regime whereby young girls are actively engaging with music on a personal level – in their bedroom in front of the mirror.
“Neutrogena, with its enviable positioning as a well-priced solution-oriented beauty and skincare product line, has impressive brand equity with mature women. However, the ‘lines’ between the brands that teens and their moms wear and share are blurring. Extending the brand into solution-oriented products for young women is a natural extension of the Neutrogena’s core values. Addressing teen-specific skin care concerns, while tying into pop culture, gives Neutrogena credibility with this market and the potential for brand loyalty at a much earlier age.”
