What?: Ads in-between programes are so passé, why wait for the ad breaks, burn a virtual hole in your credit card online with Shopisodes:
* SeenON offers consumers the ability to purchase merchandise worn or utilised in both TV shows and music videos. Content can be purchased from music acts such as The Pussycat Dolls and Steve Vai. The later also has a unique album tie-in deal with the site.
* GET Interactive is a similar website with plans to make all TV and music video content available to the buying public. Consumers roll their computer mouse over photos and video stills to find details of the particular product.
So what?: The recent boom in celebrity endorsed clothing ranges has had questionable success. A step on from the ‘get the look’ pages of woman’s style magazines, these sites showcase a moreformalised version of aping your favourite artist’s look.
Having the ability to make your own choices and shop direct from music videos has massive potential if approached right. However, The Pussycat Dolls section seems to offer shoes and bathroom towels, so there is still some clever thinking to be done here to make it truly viable.
The future of music television could well be BuyTV rather than MTV, bridging the gap between online shopping and music consumption with ad-funding becoming embeddable.
