Folk gets steamy
Here’s the new commercial for Reid’s laundry service – yes, you heard right, a laundry service. Reid’s offers “tender loving care for the things you wear” and they like to sing and dance about it. The commercial features folk chanteuse Erin Ivey coyly inviting you to join her amongst the racks of freshly steamed shirts in plastic bags.
Apparently she’s the “shirt you wear” and ” your brand new slacks”. Although interestingly she Read more

Scouting for sales
“Do you like my grassy knoll?,’ said Ferne Cotton from an AstroTurfed set as she prepared to thrust another year of BRIT nominations upon us. The Brit Awards 2009 are just around the corner, so Brands Bands Fans ventured over to the Camden Roundhouse to check out this year’s selection of last year’s talent. Ferne gave the usual patter: “I’m up for best fake blonde, ” she said – with one eye on the autocue and the other on the photographers circling a little too closely to her hemline Read more

Busker makes a mint
Tic Tac has moved on from its “refreshing little lifts” tag line and has started making a bit of noise (literally) in the music space. A few months ago we highlighted a fairly major download giveaway with Sony BMG, and now the mint brand is taking a more quirky viral approach to its musical offerings. Tic Tac is sponsoring Micha Albacow, a 16-year-old boy from Uzbekistan, who does a mean line in mint based busking. Read more

No flies on this poster campaign
Britney Spears, Leona Lewis and Christina Aguilera get a pasting in Berlin. An underground billboard has been ambushed with lovingly applied Photoshop stickers depicting how the images may have been altered. Undeniably clever – even if it is slightly lost on the average non-Photoshop-using passer by. Ironically though, it probably draws even more eyes to the artists in question than it would have done minus the stickers.

New Kids on the boat
New Kids on the Block are to take a three-day cruise around the Caribbean with some of their biggest fans. The event will see performances from the reformed group and includes special ‘meet and greet’ sessions. The move echoes similar water-bound activity from the likes of Motley Crue, John Mayer and to some extent Josh Groban.
The (not so new) kids set sail from Fort Lauderdale, Florida on the 15th May Read more

Switching on the electrolyte
Gatorade, the Pepsi owned energy drink, is having a major overhaul – taking its increasingly retro packaging up a notch with bold new colours and simple hard hitting statements. It’s out with the ‘Gatorade – Thirst Quencher’ tag line and in with ‘Gatorade G’. US rapper Lil’ Wayne (who had the biggest selling album of 2008 at 2.88M copies) is stepping in, not to contribute music, but to work as a voice-over artist. Read more

Radiohead soundtrack the homeless
The National Coalition for the Homeless is utilising a track donated by Radiohead (MK-1) in its “It Can Happen to Anyone” commercial.
The ad features what at first appears to be an average well dressed girl. However, the commercial – which runs in reverse – soon highlights that even the most unsupsecting people can end up destitute.

Microsoft makes music child’s play
Are you a heavy coffee drinking/child’s laptop stealing ad jingle creator? Are you stuck for a tune for that all-important ‘glow-in-the-dark’ towel pitch?
Well Microsoft may just have a solution for you with the unveiling of the Songsmith music package at CES. The new music creation tool is apparently “for anyone who has ever sung in the shower”. It generates musical accompaniment to match a singer’s voice. Among other effects it has “happy” and “jazzy” sliders available (which to be fair is more or less exactly what Mark Ronson uses).
